For more than 25 years, education has been the driving force behind the Vacaville Jazz Festival, and this year’s event proudly continued that legacy. Over 125 students from Vanden High School, Vacaville High School, Will C. Wood High School, Dixon High School, and Winters High School began their day in a series of inspiring clinics led by the world-renowned jazz faculty of Sacramento State University and acclaimed vocalist Ramana Vieira. The highlight of the festival was these dynamic, hands-on sessions—especially the improvisation clinic with Sacramento State professor Duncan McElman—where students explored advanced jazz techniques, ensemble communication, and creative expression in a supportive, high-energy environment.

 

Following the clinics, each school ensemble performed on stage, giving students the opportunity to showcase what they had learned while connecting with peers from across the region. Select students were also invited to join forces in a Regional All-Star Group, performing together as a symbol of collaboration and musical growth. The Sacramento State Jazz Ensemble capped off the day with a thrilling performance that inspired every young musician in attendance. True to its mission, the Vacaville Jazz Festival continues to elevate and celebrate music education—empowering students to pursue artistic excellence both in and beyond the classroom.
